Episode 05: Seeing problems with Shang Liang
Interactive artist talks about using technology in the creative field
Shang Liang is a Singaporean interactive artist and senior technical programme manager with Twitter. He also collaborated with artist Mojoko to create an interactive installation that was featured in the Singapore Arts Museum. In this podcast, Shang talks about his journey, working with Twitter, as well as doing creative work using computing.
Budget for Creativity
Shang feels that as compared to freelancing, bigger companies have more opportunities for creativity due to the larger budget.
Programming as the Biggest Tool
When it comes to creating something, Shang feels that programming is the biggest tool. Other mediums may come with requirements like budget and equipment, but for programming, with a computer and keyboard, there is no limit to what one can do.
Advice for Young Creatives
Dare to take the path that no one has travelled before. The only way of life and the right mentality moving forward would be to step out of one’s comfort zone, explore and do what has never been done before.
Tools
Instead of spending thousands of dollars on software just to resize images, Shang sought a simpler solution and created Birme, a free online bulk image resizer. You can check it our here.
